With Christmas just around the corner, is this a perfect present for those difficult people who already have everything!?

Tracks to the Trenches 2016 & 2018 announced!

WW1 Action at Tracks to the Trenches 2014It is with great pleasure that the Moseley Railway Trust’s events team can announce that the highly acclaimed “Tracks to the Trenches” (TTTT) is set to be developed and repeated in 2016 (TTTT 2) and 2018* (TTTT 3).

In line with recently announced schedules, these events are now being planned for May in their respective years.

2016 (TTTT 2) – a 3 day event from 13-15th May 2016. A very similar format to the 2014 event (TTTT 1); with photo-charters being arranged in advance of the event weekend, evening photo-shoots during the event, access all areas passes, an emphasis on Schools/Group visit packages, plus much more!

The 2017 event (13-14th May) is again planned to be a smaller event, specifically looking at Kerr Stuart locomotives and celebrating the Centenary of our flagship engine “Stanhope” – but it is still hoped to maintain a WW1 presence in the Trench area.

2018* (TTTT 3) – a 3 day World War 1 centenary event from 13-15th JULY 2018. Currently anticipated as really special year. Further details to be confirmed shortly, but hopefully developing on from TTTT1 and 2.

Please keep the dates in your diaries!

The organisers would like to invite any interested exhibitors or traders to contact us through this site (contact box above right, or comments box below) – we would be pleased to hear from you! Entry forms etc will start to be released shortly.Tracks (& Simplex) To Trenches at Apedale

Did it really happen?!

The BIG weekend has been and gone all too fast, leaving some of us somewhat shell-shocked.

There has been much positive feedback – it seems as though we got something right. Overtime we hope to provide a gallery of images and a comprehensive list of links to show what “Tracks to the Trenches: 1914 – 2014” presented. In the interim – please see the photo below as some evidence that it really did happen!

A BIG thank you to all visitors, volunteers, exhibitors, traders, equipment owners and supporters for helping us stage a truly memorable event. We hope that everyone will take a few moments to consider the work of the light railway and tramway companies during WW1, especially on Remembrance day in November.

A little taster…

Over the last 12 months we have been steadily working behind the scenes to raise the profile of First World War light railways and our own Tracks to the Trenches – 2014 event.

We were privileged to be invited to be part of the First World War Living History section at the 5 day War & Peace Revival show in Folkestone last weekend – by providing a 20hp Bent-Frame Simplex and Class D open wagon. Through the good offices of the Royal Logistics Corps museum and the Queen’s Own Royal West Kent’s Living history group we were able to provide a trulySimplex in the sun! realistic combination of Trench and Trench tramway.

The public seemed to have appreciated the efforts of the West Kent’s – as their display was awarded best in show!

The photos below give a further taster of what should be happening at Apedale next September!

Utrech bound….

dutch_visitThe Moseley Railway Trust is honoured to have been asked to provide exhibits to support a major exhibition which is to be staged by the Dutch National Railway Museum at Utrecht – “Tracks to the Front“. 40Hp Motor Rail locomotive no.1369 and a water
tank wagon departed from the Trust’s base at Apedale, Staffordshire on 9th
March 2013. They will be displayed in Utrecht alongside other exhibits
gathered from as far afield as Serbia. The Motor Rail locomotive is one of
the distinctive “Enclosed” type locomotives. It was restored to working
order during an episode of the “Salvage Squad” TV series.

Phil Robinson, Moseley Railway Trust chairman said – We are delighted to be
able to support one of Europe’s major railway museums. We are confident that
this loan will further raise the profile of the Moseley Railway Trust, and
will also raise awareness of our major event “Tracks to the Trenches – 2014”
which will be held at Apedale in September 2014 to mark the start of the
First World War.
