Locomotive Drawings

As further drawings become available I shall endeavor to post them here. The first drawing depicts a Motor Rail & Tramcar 40hp "Protected" locomotive. There were three main models of this engine, the "Open", "Protected" and fully "Armoured". Built from late 1916, once the British were fully involved with light railways, these locos were powered by a 4 cylinder Dorman Petrol/Paraffin engine and a 2 speed mechanical gearbox (with reverser). These drawings have been kindly provided by the Author - David Smith. Please click on each drawing to view in a new window & print with ease.

This second drawing depicts a Dick Kerr 40hp (30kW) Petrol/Paraffin - Electric locomotive. 200 of these unusual machines were built, 100 by Dick Kerr Ltd. and a further 100 very similar machines by British Westinghouse.

Recently this rather nice drawing of a British WDLR Hunslet 4-6-0T has come to light. As with the other drawings, please click on it for a larger view.

This General arrangement of a standard Baguley 10hp loco has been made available by Peter Foley. These engines were used by the British/Canadian forestry lines. They were also used by the Forestry Commission in Britain during the conflict. As with the other drawings, please click on it for a larger view.
